You know, I love the IDEAS in this article on paying less by paying more for shoes. I mean it makes a perfect “I’ve read every manage-your-money and diet-for-life book I’ve ever found on teh shelves of B&N” kind of sense. Instead of spending/eating tons of junk, get a couple of good things that are more satisfying and then you won’t get cravings (shoes or Snickers) and you won’t overspend/overeat.
I love it.
However, if I had the kind of self-control about spending that I have about other things and that the writer evidences in this article, man I wouldn’t have started with buying the cheap shoes at all. And I wouldn’t haunt ebay :) So in some ways, it’s preaching to the converted.
More importantly, this is hard to do if you’re not in a normal size range, whether shoes or clothes or whatever. Yes, it works for food - for some people at least (for me I have totally different issues, so I’m not sure whether it would wrk for me or not). But Ican’t BUY lots of quality clothing because most designers don’t make most of their real couture stuff in sizes above, what, 8? Or they do butonly once in a while…or some collections…or just parts of collections. Fortuantely the 80s are in right now so Hare’ Rama I can buy oversized that ends up being just slightly oversized on me (so it looks like an oversized garment, but not as much as the size it was intended for) or can even buy the L/XL range and get an actually oversized top.
And of course, even when I was a size 0-3, my feet were 11s. No joke. Classic model feet. Way way big. So, the shoe thing…well it ain’t never gonna happen.
Anyhow, the point is, love the idea, and if you’re one of those lucky chicks with size 6 feet…well I envy you those Laboutins, that’s all….
