So I’ve discovered something. I have curly hair. Not super-curly mind you, but there are definitely ringlets around my face.
I come from a family of curly-haired folk (the bane of my bro’s existence; he keeps it cropped short. However, he’s got the cheekbones to do that). How did I miss my curly hair?
Well, for 40+ years most shampoos available have sodium laureth sulfate, or a chemical cousin of same, as one of the primary ingredients. It makes the shampoo bubble nicely, but it does crummy things to your hair. Apparently, one of the things it does to mine is flatten it out.
So I moved over to an organic, non-sulfated shampoo, and whoa…I have curls, I have body, I look like I regained all the hair I lost after the BWG was born. It’s WEIRD. Even with a heavy-conditioner on it (also organic, also no sulfates), it’s curly.
I thought it might be something about the particular brand of organic shampoo I bought, so yesterday I bought a small bottle of something else, again without sulfates. Same effect. It’s amazing.
So if you’re in the mood for serious body (don’t try to iron your hair after this it won’t work - yes, I checked, simply for the sake of our dear readers), trade in your shampoo and tell me how it goes.
