i like rodarte. i’m totally a fan of the severe and architectural, so the fact that i love their ethereal floaty ultra-femmy stuff says a lot for theiir work. even better, they often combine the architectural with the feminine, and that’s fantastic. for a nice slideshow of their work take a look at style.com’s slideshow.there were some complaints that they occasionally veer too much towards art and too little towards the wearable, but i think that’s simply a symptom of how incredibly gap-i-fied we’ve all become. i’d ADORE a suit like this for a nice lunch with the girls:
architecture meets floral, whipped cream for me please! so what’s my beef?
my beef is that neither of these sibling designers is particularly skinny, one of them (kate) very much not so. that’s not a problem…but why, oh why, do they design things that look great on skinny women and sell in places that often won’t carry above a size 10? i find it frustrating and baffling. worse yet, some of the funkier architectural stuff actually would look good on someone my size, for example, but when i called a couple of their retailers, ha ha ha…so i’m just going to have to hang out and wait till someone knocks off their look in larger sizes - no fair to them. but heck it’s no fair for me, either. sulk.
