Body Shape Part II–Star Style

Yeah, yeah, I know–*they* have trainers and perfect figures, while you’re just sloughing along with your big hips, belly pooch, etc.  Yep, if you had been born with the right genes, you’d have no problem looking great.

Fact is that celebs come in all body types–and while the personal trainers, stylists and low BMIs don’t hurt, nobody has a perfect figure–well, maybe Halle Berry–but stars either know or know someone who knows how to dress for their figure type.  Now, I’m all for grabbing tips wherever I can.  Thus, the following figure types and stars with them.  Keep ‘em in mind and how they dress, steal ideas accordingly.

Rectangles–feeling straight, eh?  Since nearly half of all women have this type, you have a big advantage–designers design for you and it’s relatively easy to find stuff that fits.  Keep it simple.  Jennifer Aniston has your figure type.  So do Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron.  Yes, you don’t have much of a waist, but you and inverted triangles have much more fun buying pants than the rest of us.

Inverted Triangles–Jamie Lee Curtis and Queen Latifah also carry the weight of the world on their shoulders.  So does little Drew Barrymore.  Keep your necklines open and avoid anything elaborate in the shoulders.  Lots of models and most professional women athletes have this figure type.  It’s a classic clothes hanger shape.  Your biggest problem is looking heavy in the shoulders and, thus, short-necked.  If you live in your boyfriend’s or hubby’s clothes, you probably have this figure type.

Pear-shaped–no, no, stop your complaining right there.  Do you ever hear Catherine Zeta-Jones complain about her narrow shoulders?  Nope, she just makes sure she’s got a horizontal line going somewhere to make them look wider.  And she’s not the only bombshell’s whose been narrow-shouldered, wide-hipped and somewhat flatchested.  Jean Harlow was a total pear.  And looked great in all those slinky 1930’s satins with lots of neck and shoulder action.  This is the easiest figure type to balance, since all you really have to do is add to the shoulder line.

Hourglass–yes, Marilyn was one, but so are some less voluptuous types–Halle Berrry, Mischa Barton, Beyonce and Kate Moss.  Every good hourglass should have a belt collection.  Biggest thing here is to avoid straight lines through the torso–i.e. all thoee straight floaty tops may not be terrible, but they’re not super flattering either.  As an hourglass, it’s easy to dress up, but harder to dress down.
