hauteboys, and, oh, yeah, the Obamas

Every fashion pundit is going on about Michele’s I day dress and her evening (ball) gown. In particular the colour choices. I’ll limit myself to the Obama fashion commentary by saying 3 things:
1) Of COURSE M’s wearing “interesting” colors; hellOOOO, she’s Afr-Am. She’s DARK and she’s TALL. She’d look idiotic in a matte navy blue.
2) I’m so happy to have a president who can wear white tie. I loved Bill, really I did, but he never could quite manage it. He looks much better in those clean cut grey suits he’s been popping around in the last few years. And we won’t get me started on certain former presidents with orangutan arms trying to wear formal wear.
3) I hereby forgive Isabel Toledo for always being covered by NYCity journalism as a Personage rather than a designer - that gold sheathe/jacket thing is to die for.
Now, an apology to HauteLook. Having totally dissed them on what they offer for little boys, they had a sale on Nest clothing - organic and natural dyed, for both boys and girls, and the boy’s stuff is interesting, comfy and adorable (I just got a package for my little guy today). I will say, in my own defense, that they promptly followed up with two kids lines in three days that involved boys t-shirts with vint-print guitars made into tree-like figures and skulls saying things like “I rock.” Boring boring boring. But if you’re willing to sort through sales every few days, moms of boys can probably regularly run across cute and interesting boys clothes that work and get introduced to some designers and boutique firms it’s worth keeping an eye on as your kid moves into his teens.
